Hernando de Soto and his 1989 book, “The Other Path: The Invisible Revolution in the Third World.” It has sparked numerous free-market reforms in his native country and throughout Latin America.

One of his main points was that high taxes and a ridiculous number of regulations made it nearly impossible for the poor and middle class to start small businesses. It’s a lesson all countries need to keep learning.
