Si evaluamos su primer año de gobierno, mi percepción es buena. Sus actitudes, sus primeras reacciones han sido de tolerancia y de flexibilidad; evidentemente está tratando distintas fórmulas: ha cambiado a los primeros ministros; pero de una u otra forma está atento y está aprendiendo a escoger a la gente (que lo acompaña en el Gobierno) que no es fácil. Yo le veo buena voluntad y criterio.

A native of Peru, de Soto was educated in Switzerland, where he pursued a career in business before returning to Lima. He is the author of The Mystery of Capital: Why Capitalism Triumphs in the West and Fails Everywhere Else (Basic Books, 2000). The following is an edited transcript of the interview, which was conducted by Rik Kirkland, McKinsey’s director of publishing.

Ayer en las instalaciones de Kanatari en el distrito de Punchana, cerca de 50 mujeres de las etnias boras, cocama cocamillas, shipibos, jíbaros y yaguas se alistaban para capacitarse en un taller de dos días que se inicia hoy.

Durante el evento también expondrán sus trabajos artesanales en una especie de feria donde intercambiarán técnicas y se podrá apreciar la creatividad que cada una de ellas imprime al diseñar sus accesorios típicos.
